IF God is for us…
I recently heard my pastor preach on this Scripture, “IF God is for us.” He asked the question, “Is God for us?”
I thought that it was a great question. My immediate, “churchy” answer was, “Of course, duh?!” My heart’s true answer was quite different. “Is He?” It’s a relevant question with which my heart needs to wrestle! I find it interesting that in just a few verses later, Paul says that He is “convinced or persuaded that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39) Paul was persuaded. He was convinced. In the Greek, the transliterated word is “pitho,” which means to induce one by words to believe, to make friends of, to win one’s favor, or to seek to win one. Paul’s heart had to be won, and won it was! God is winning my heart as well. He’s persuading me of His love for me everyday – not based on my successes or failures, but based on His stubborn intent to love me because I’m His! Is God for me? He just might be!
